Powerflushing is a process that cleans a solar thermal system from debris that may have caused reduction in efficiency. Solar water heating systems that have suffered long term overheating often need to be powerflushed.
- Solar Chemical Powerflushing (Sometimes described as jet flushing, kamco-ing or hard-flushing).
Solar powerflush procedure
- the system is purged with clean cold water
- solar flushing chemical is added and the system heated to at least 40?C
- the cleaning chemical is circulated at high velocity for at least half an hour
- the system is purged with clean cold water
- solar rated antifreeze is added, the air removed and the system re-pressurised.
- Solar filling and flushing pump
- Sentinel R200 for powerflushing solar water heating systems to remove overheated and acidic antifreeze solution.
- Fernox Solar Cleaner C for powerflushing solar water heating systems to remove overheated and acidic antifreeze solution.
Will the powerflush damage my solar thermal installation?
Though solar powerflushing is a high speed / flow-rate process, it is carried out at a low pressure. It is therefore unlikely to damage the pipework / solar panel unless it is already seriously corroded.
