Powerflushing is a process that cleans a solar thermal system from debris that may have caused reduction in efficiency. Solar water heating systems that have suffered long term overheating often need to be powerflushed.

Solar powerflush procedure

  • the system is purged with clean cold water
  • solar flushing chemical is added and the system heated to at least 40?C
  • the cleaning chemical is circulated at high velocity for at least half an hour
  • the system is purged with clean cold water
  • solar rated antifreeze is added, the air removed and the system re-pressurised.

Will the powerflush damage my solar thermal installation?

Though solar powerflushing is a high speed / flow-rate process, it is carried out at a low pressure. It is therefore unlikely to damage the pipework / solar panel unless it is already seriously corroded.
