Solar heating systems can be very dangerous when not handled with care and expertise. There have been a number of cases of serious injury from burns.
Solar systems can produce very high temperatures
The sun is an uncontrolled heat source and the inside of a panel can easily reach 250?C +. Therefore it is important to follow some safety guidelines when inspecting a solar heating system:
- Never touch any non insulated pipework.
- Never operate any pressure relief or other valves, particularly when the system is hot.
- It is advisable to install a solar rated temperature mixing valve to protect the householder from scalding.
