Solar heating systems can be very dangerous when not handled with care and expertise. There have been a number of cases of serious injury from burns.

Solar systems can produce very high temperatures

The sun is an uncontrolled heat source and the inside of a panel can easily reach 250?C +. Therefore it is important to follow some safety guidelines when inspecting a solar heating system:

  • Never touch any non insulated pipework.
  • Never operate any pressure relief or other valves, particularly when the system is hot.
  • It is advisable to install a solar rated temperature mixing valve to protect the householder from scalding.
